Good little spec monkey

-I just read like 7 scripts in like 5 days. Note to self: don't get that far behind again.

-Been thinking about my script. I've been told it is more marketable as a horror. Problem is, I'm not into horror. I really didn't know where to begin. Did some research and found out horror is all about fear not just being scared or shock or gore. From fear I go to terror or terrorism. I think that's what most people fear today, what scares them the most. The idea that if you're standing on a subway platform and you look over the edge to see that the train is coming you have to be aware who is behind you. If you are on a plane you notice when that guy makes an unusual amount of trips to the bathroom. Even just the general, something is going to happen but you don't know what, you don't know where and you don't know when. That, I can tap into. That, actually works well for the story. Right now, the characters respond with heroism. I need them to be fearful. I'm going to try and work on it over the long weekend.

Stuff is happening. Is stuff happening?

So if I take what I'm being told at face value some good things could be happening soon. Thing is how can you take anyone at face value in the H'wood? If I put all my eggs in one basket and things fall through I'm doomed. It's like tip-toeing through a minefield.

Signs, signs, everywhere signs...

The following story is true.

*This morning I walked to the grocery store and I realized I was walking on Hollywood Blvd. so I started to sing "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" to myself.

*On the way back I saw the biggest roach, dead on it's back in front of a sushi place also on Hollywood Blvd.

* A block later for some reason "We Are the Champions" then popped into my head. Not all the lyrics and not in order. I merged the first part of the first verse and the second part of the second verse.

I've paid my dues -
Time after time -
I've done my sentence
But committed no crime -
And bad mistakes
I've made a few

I consider it a challenge before the whole human race -
And I ain't gonna lose -

That about sums me up, especially the last two lines.

*Got back and immediately went back out to Borders on Sunset and Vine to pick up the Hollywood Reporter. I park and the meter takes some of my coins but not all. It's totally indiscriminate as to which ones it takes.

*Supposedly there's a special section I've been looking to check out that only appears the first Tuesday edition of the Hollywood Reporter each month. Last month I went on Tuesday and they had the Monday edition. I figured maybe they put them out a day later so being that I really couldn't make use of the info. anyway at that time, I decided just to wait until August. I went yesterday and again they had Monday's edition out so I go today and they have Wednesday's edition out! C'mom- work with me here.

*I get in the car and "Stayin' Alive" is just ending on the radio. I turn onto Hollywood Blvd., change the station and get the dead air just as a song begins.

Almost as if on cue, I walk a lonely road, the only one that I have ever known...
